Is the bible a manual giving instructions on life, belief or faith ?
The bible, some believe the word of God, is a collection of books OT Jewish and OT and NT Christian, which the faithful adhere to. The stories in it are from a very different life style, and many stories are obviously untrue or conflict with one and other. That leaves faith, but can one have faith in a manual alien to our way of living and so full of contradictory and untrue stories.

is a collection of works, written by various authors and selected and edited to reflect the views of the various church authorities.
there are many 'books' which didnt make the final cut (KJV)... some are mentioned in the 'current' version, and quoted even though they didnt make the grade...
some books which ARE in the bible (KJV) are not regarded as 'inspired scripture' by all sects (notably 'the Canticles, or Song of Solomon - which is pretty filthy)
as you correctly point out, many verses conflict with other verses - which leads to 'interpretation - and interpretation leads to schism - and schism leads to 30,000 different christian sects all believing slightly different things.
the only way the sheeple can deal with this is by faith in their own personal sect, and faith in the interpretation of their own personal sect leader
