How to choose a 7 inch Digital Frame
I wonder how often a roll of 35mm film is sold these days. Photography has been revolutionised by the advent of digital cameras, making even the most basic photographer look good. We can view and edit our photos on our PC and keep a comprehensive file of pictures, yet when we want to display our photos we print them onto photo paper, often with a printer that’s not quite up to it or running low on ink. The printed photos fade or can be damaged by moisture, so why do we do it?
Digital photo frames are becoming increasingly popular and can be purchased very reasonably. However, price is not the best way to judge quality so here are a few tips on choosing a 7 inch Digital Frame.
Firstly, you need to check out the appearance of the frame itself. It won’t be turned on all the time so you want it to look good in its own right. Some frames have interchangeable fascias or use leather or wood. Some have their brand name splashed across the front which you might not like. It should be easy to access the controls and you may prefer them to be on the back but some frames have touch controls discreetly on the front.
The screen quality is of utmost importance. That basically boils down to pixels, the more you have the better quality the reproduction will be. For a 7 inch Digital Frame you should have around 750 by 500. As with most displays the contrast ratio is important and the higher the ratio the sharper your pictures will be. Equally you should be able to control the brightness.
Most digital frames have a slideshow as a display option and you should be able to choose how long each image is displayed. Some even have clocks that will turn on and off at certain times of day. Some frames will rotate your pictures accordingly. There are frames that will do video playback as well with their own built in speakers.
You will need to check out which storage system the frame comes with, many use SD memory cards. Some frames have internal memory as well as holding pictures in memory.
Some frames support wi-fi or Bluetooth. You can download pictures from your own collection or from sharing sites like Flickr.
